Explore the Perfect Fit: Discover Your Ideal Handmade Bag Size
When shopping online, determining bag sizes can be tricky. Bag measurements suggest most bags are similar, but slight variations in size and orientation can impact overall volume.
I’ve detailed my standard bags on this page to assist you in selecting the most suitable bag. While I try to keep sizing the same for each style of bag, slight variations possible due to fabric manufacturer, pattern repeat, and handmade nature of the bags. Measurements are provided in each listing, with any deviations noted.
Drawstring Bags:
Small Drawstring Bag: These bags measure approximately 9.5” wide by 10” tall and have a 3.5” boxed bottom. They will hold up to two cakes of sock yarn and close with a double drawstring. Some of these bags have pockets, while others don't. Please see individual listings for details.
Bucket Bag: These are the largest bags that I currently offer. Round in shape, these measure approximately 9.5” - 10” tall and have a 8.5” diameter bottom. They all have pockets all the way around on the inside. These bags will hold quite a lot and are good for medium to larger projects. The bottom of these bags are quilted as a fun design feature and for added stability, and they will stand open like a bucket for easy access. Please note that once closed, these bags will have slightly less capacity.

Zippered Bags and Pouches:
Accessory Pouch: Adorable little pouches which measure approximately 5” tall by 8.5” wide and have a 2.5” boxed bottom. These are great for carrying accessories and other small items, and they will stand on their own.
Sock Minis: These are my smallest project bags. Each mini will hold one cake of sock weight yarn and are good for very small (sock sized) projects. They come with a removable wrist strap and are great for travel. These bags measure approximately 6.25" tall by 9.5" wide with a 3.5" boxed bottom, and do not come with pockets.
Sock Pouches: These pouches have more room than the sock minis and will fit a heavier weight yarn and a small project, such as a hat or cowl. These also come with a removable wrist strap.
Zippered Bags: These are the largest of my zippered bags/pouches and they come with interior pockets. These will easily hold at least two cakes of yarn and are great for medium sized projects. These measure approximately 9" tall by 12" wide and have a 4" boxed bottom. These also come with a removable wrist strap.

Project Totes
These totes come in three different sizes: small, medium, and XL. All three totes have expandable drawstring closures, providing extra space when needed. They also feature two exterior pockets: a slip pocket and a zippered pocket. Inside, these totes are packed with knitting-specific pockets. Please review the individual listings for specific details about each bag.
The small tote is comparable in size to my bucket bags when open. It measures 10” tall (without the expandable drawstring, which adds a few extra inches), 8” wide, and 5” deep. Surprisingly, it has more capacity than my bucket bags because it retains its size when closed, unlike the buckets that become smaller when closed. The straps on this tote are approximately 16” long.
The medium tote is significantly larger than the small one, measuring 11” tall, 12” wide, and 5” deep. It’s a perfect size for sweater projects. The straps on this tote are longer than on the small one, measuring approximately 25” inches.
The XL tote is the largest of the three, measuring 15” tall, 12” wide, and 5” deep. It’s ideal for extra-large projects or as a versatile carry-all. The straps on this tote are also longer, measuring 25” to 28” inches, allowing you to conveniently carry it over your shoulder.
These totes were made using the Firefly Tote pattern by Noodlehead Fabrics. I’ve made some adaptations to the pattern and created a medium-sized tote that combines the small and large totes. I’ve also added numerous project-specific pockets to the bags.
